Fire Destroys Apartment Building, Damages Priory Hotel

By Andy Medici

Another fire on the Northside Monday claimed an apartment building on Pressley Street and damaged the Priory Hotel next door. Although 21 people were evacuated from the building, no one was injured.

Firefighters worked for several hours to make sure the blaze was under control.

The Priory Hotel was closed temporarily, and currently workers have brought in machines to clear out the smoke and ready the historic hotel for occupancy as soon as possible.

This fire joined the earlier New Years fire on Western Avenue, in which three businesses and their accompanying upstairs apartments were destroyed. No one was injured in that fire either.
