If you want one of 300 plus dealer jobs that start this summer at Rivers Casino, you’d better get your application in now.
Two weeks after Rivers announced the new jobs, the casino has received about 1500 applications, said Vice President of Human Resources Andre Barnabei. About 1350 of those applications are from people without prior gaming experience.
For the large majority of applicants who don’t have previous experience, the casino is hosting a six to 10 week unpaid dealer school.
“We’re really looking for someone who has a positive attitude, energetic, smiling faces,” Barnabei said. He wants dealers who can make casino guests feel welcomed, have fun and return.
But, in order to be accepted into the school, applicants need to attend one of two career fairs held Monday, March 8 and Tuesday, March 9 at the Sheraton Hotel in Station Square. On both days the fair will open at 11 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
Rivers will conduct one-on-one onsite interviews at the fair in order to decide who will make it into dealer school. Applicants who make it in and complete dealer school then have to audition and pass to land a job.
“It’s an interview process,” Barnabei said. “There may be multiple stages of interviews.”
Interviews at the career fairs will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Although applicants who cannot make it to the fair technically still have a chance to get into the school, Barnabei is expecting a large enough turnout March 8 and 9 to fill the schools.
“[Applicants] should reserve a couple of hours for the process,” Barnabei said.
The expected turnout could mean that applicants will have to wait in line, and the casino wants everyone to get a shot at an interview. “We don’t want anyone to rush or have to leave.”
Applicants should come to the career fair prepared and dressed as if for any other interview, especially since the casino has already received so many applications.

When Rivers held a job fair last year before it opened, Barnabei said they held it at Heinz Field, but the timing didn’t work out for this event.
“[The Sheraton] was the space that was available in the time frame that we needed,” he said.
