Tractor trailer overturns on East St. overpass
No one was injured in a tractor trailer accident around 11 a.m. Monday. A truck carrying lumber flipped onto its side as it tried to make a tight turn from East Street onto a highway overpass.
The driver, Jamie, stood watching from a sidewalk as cleanup crews worked to remove the truck’s toppled load of lumber from the road. He did not wish to give his last name.
“[The truck] hit the wall and went over,” Jamie said. He was not injured in the accident.
The truck dislodged a piece of metal pipe from the fence enclosing the overpass. It fell onto I-279 below, but did not hit anything.
The lumber was a delivery for Artcraft Wood Products on Spring Garden Avenue in Spring Garden. Jamie said this was his first delivery to the business.
Witnesses at the scene said the truck was moving slowly when it turned over. The speed limit around the 90-degree turn is 15 mph.
Police at the scene did not wish to give comment.
