Oliver students hope to visit Guadeloupe pen pals
A group of eight French students at Oliver High School are raising funds for a trip to Guadeloupe to visit their pen pals. To help raise money, Bistro to Go is hosting a Caribbean fund raiser dinner on Feb. 19 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
The students will travel to the French-speaking Caribbean island of Guadeloupe in June, where they will stay with Guadeloupe families. According to their website, the Oliver students are looking forward to teaching their new friends how to play American football.
Tickets to the benefit dinner are $25 or $40 for couples. Bistro’s Chef Alfredo and the students will prepare the meal, and the students will host and serve the dinner.
The students have estimated the trip will cost $1,500 per person, including passport fees, airfare, food, health insurance, accommodations and other expenses. Some of the students have never been out of Pittsburgh before. You can watch the video on the homepage of their website to hear some of them talk — in French — about why they’d like to go on this trip.
