Two Northside museums, the Children’s Museum and the Carnegie Science Center, are hosting photography competitions.

The Children’s Museum, as part of the International Heritage Photography Experience, is accepting photos of Pittsburgh from photographers ages 14-21 until April 15.

The goal of the contest, with participants in more than 66 countries, is to encourage youth to explore and celebrate their regions through photography.  Last year, Northsider Ben Page won a trip to France for the awards ceremony.

The Science Center’s photography contest, The Art of Science, is open to amateur photographers of all ages.  Photographers can submit up to two photographs that show a natural or man-made scientific phenomenon, such as a weather event, a microscopic image, an image showing force or energy, or an image from any scientific field such as astronomy or physics.

Photographs should be both “artistically significant” and also clearly communicate the scientific concept being photographed. Cash prizes will be awarded for the winners in three age groups: 12 and under; 13-17; and 18 and older.
