More than two thousand Pittsburghers made their way to the Northside last weekend for the first-ever Deutschtown Music Festival.

Event organizers, Historic Deutschtown resident Cody Walters and Spring Hill resident Ben Soltesz, estimate that anywhere between 2,500 and 3,000 saw local bands perform live in 10 venues in Historic Deutschtown on Saturday July 6.

“I think the event was a total success,” said Walters. “Bands want to play the Northside… Our volunteers and planners really did an amazing job and put all they had into making this a success.”

Early survey returns show that it wasn’t just Northsiders who came out for the festival, but music lovers from all over the city, including Mount Lebanon, Bellevue, Squirrel Hill and Mount Washington.

The festival even inspired several businesses like Max’s plan to add live music to their weekly schedules.

Though organizers are giving themselves a break, they plan to repeat the festivals success next year and are already talking about new activities and venues.

“I anticipate having to expand, and activities in the park,” said Walters. “New venues will totally be included in the discussion.”

“This will totally be an annual event.”
