Northside residents and community leaders sat down with several incoming and current Pittsburgh Public School Board members this weekend to discuss the future of education on the Northside.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, current board member Mark Brentley and incoming board members Carolyn Klug, Cynthia Ann Falls and Terry Kennedy met at Bistro-to-Go on East Ohio Street to discuss several specific education issues with about 15 Northsiders.

The meeting was organized by the Northside Leadership Conference’s education committee.

The merger of Perry and Oliver high schools was a topic of the meeting as well as the results of using King as a teacher academy and the expansion of Morrow-Rooney.

The group also discussed the future of Manchester Elementary and the lack of access Northview Heights families have to PreK programs.

“I think the important thing is that they got a very clear sense that the Northside is very thoughtful about these issues and well-organized,” said NLSC Executive Director Mark Fatla.

The NLSC education committee meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the mezzanine at 4 Allegheny Center. The public is welcome to attend.
