The Northside Rotary and the Lion’s Club made a joint donation of $1,000 in school supplies to a local middle school.
The Rotary donated folders, binders, paper, crayons, markers, pencils and pens to Allegheny Middle School in Allegheny Square.
“Our motto is service above sales,” said Rotary member Michael Delie. “We are trying to reach out to young kids and give them the tools they need to be successful.”
Both the Northside Rotary and Lion’s Club have a history of making donations in the community, many of which are education based. The rotary also has a scholarship and mentor students from local schools.
Delie said the Rotary understands the hardships that come with teaching in an urban school, and want to give teachers the tools necessary to mold young minds.
The school was chosen because it was next in the rotation of yearly donations by the Northside Rotary.
The Northside Rotary will also host its semiannual Spaghetti Dinner on October 17th from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Cavalry United Methodist Church.
With funds raised from the dinner, the rotary will also donates dictionaries to Northside third graders and Kindles to high school seniors at the Northside Leadership Conference’s annual awards banquet.
Pittsburgh’s Northside Rotary meets every Friday at noon in the North Shore Café on the second floor of the Cardello Building.
