Beginning on Thursday, January 16, The Jazz Conspiracy Big Band will perform twice a month at the Allegheny Elks Lodge, 400 Cedar Ave.

Dan Lindey, the founder, co-leader and baritone saxophone player of the Big Band said the bands performances will be considered a “public rehearsal,” which is set to begin at 8 p.m.

The Jazz Conspiracy is structured like a traditional big band would be, including five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, a stand-up bass, keyboard and drum set. Lindey also said that each performance usually has a guest vocalist or instrumentalist accompany the band.

Lindey said the band plays primarily swing dance music such as the Lindy Hop, but also the mambo, cha-cha and ballroom music.

“We want to appeal to the dancers and people familiar with big band music,” Lindey said.

Lindey said there will be limited room to dance, but the floor is carpeted so hardcore dancers may not be able to bust a move as easily as they’d like.

According to The Jazz Conspiracy’s website, its goal is to “have our audiences, whether age 9 or 90, stomping their feet, dancing, smiling, and leaving the rest of the world behind them while we immerse them in a complete, musical experience!”

Lindey said a contract is underway to schedule the Big Band at the Elks Club the first and third Thursday’s of each month through April.

Cover is $5 at the door and free for Elks Lodge members. The band will be performing again on Thursday, January 30.

“[We are] interested in having a diverse variety of people come and check us out, listeners and bands alike,” Lindey said. “It should be a great time.”
