With a celebration heard around the world, The Andy Warhol Museum held its 20th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, May 17 and raised just over $1 million.

The night began with a cocktail hour and the debut of the newly installed “Halston and Warhol: Silver and Suede,” which will be a permanent installation in the museum.

According the The Warhol’s website, the exhibition “includes approximately 40 of Halston’s creations.” Featured on the second floor of the museum, the installation shows how Halston and Warhol’s work were creatively intertwined. Halston’s gorgeous garments and accessories were featured throughout the floor accompanied by photographs, videos and paintings by Warhol.

Later in the night, gala goers were surprised with a special guest appearance by Gloria Gaynor who performed her signature song “I Will Survive.”

At 12 a.m. the museum opened to the public while New York City DJs AndrewAndrew kept people dancing throughout the night. The museum stayed open until 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Rick Armstrong, communications manager for the museum, said overall the event was a huge success from beginning to end. Armstrong spent almost 24 hours at The Warhol the day of the gala to prepare for the event.
