The Salvation Army in Central Northside received a $25,000 grant from UnitedHealthcare for after-school Children’s Table Cooking Classes, which will be offered several times a week.
The program, for students ages 7-12, will teach kids where their food comes from, how to prepare it, which foods provide the most nutritional benefit and how healthy on a budget.
“(The Salvation Army) has done some healthy this year through the day camp that I hear have been really popular with the kids,” Allison Davenport, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Pennsylvania CEO, said. “I know the Salvation Army will do a great job promoting the program.”
Salvation Army Lieutenants Kenneth and Minnie Cleveland were on hand to receive the grant Aug. 15, along with Heather Cianfrocco, UnitedHealthcare Northeast Region CEO.
The Salvation Army will also use part of the grant to install a salad bar.
