Since 1948, Laverty Jewelers at 611 East Ohio St. has been a mainstay along the Historic Deutschtown business district, but the store hasn’t held regular hours for years.
That’s until resident Stephanie Russo decided to inquire about the property over the summer, and became the most recent proprietor, opening the store’s doors again Oct. 12 during a quaint reopening event.
“I always walked past (the store) and wondered what was going on,” Russo said. “(The store) has been here forever and I didn’t want to see it go away.”
The original owners, the Lavertys, still own the property, but the passage of time had made maintaining the business more difficult in recent years, according to Russo.
Store hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Russo plans to hold artist events and trunk shows in the space as well.
