Science Center names three new board members
Carnegie Science Center announced the addition of three new board members Jan. 20. Joseph C. Bartolacci, President and Chief Executive Officer of Matthews International Corporation; Jennifer M. Liptak, Chief of Staff for Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald; and Pace Markowitz, Director of Communications for NOVA Chemicals all were named as the most recent board members in a statement.
Bios:
• Joseph P. Bartolacci has been President and CEO of Matthews International since 2006, and previously served in roles at Matthews asGeneral Counsel; president, casket division; executive vice president, and president, Matthews Europe, where he acquired and managed nine businesses to create the largest packaging graphics group in Europe. Prior to joining Matthews International, he was vice president and general counsel for Thrift Drug, Inc., with sole responsibility for negotiations of acquisitions, credit agreements, and lawsuits.
His career began as a senior auditor at Touche Ross & Co. He serves as the chairman of the finance committee at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe and is a member of the Mid-Atlantic advisory board for RBS Citizens.
• Jennifer M. Liptak, is Chief of Staff for Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. In addition to representing the County Executive on various boards and authorities, Liptak serves as a board member of the Allegheny County Retirement Board, the Allegheny County Professional Services Review Committee, the Jail Collaborative Cabinet, the Riverlife Board of Directors, the Pittsburgh Film Office Board of Directors, the Allegheny County Airport Authority and the First Night Advisory Board.
Before joining the County Executive’s office, she was budget director for Allegheny County Council and also held a prior position as finance manager for District Attorney Stephen Zappala. Liptak was born and raised on the Northside and currently resides in nearby Shaler.
• Pace A. Markowitz is Director of Communications, NOVA Chemicals Corporation. At NOVA Chemicals, he oversees employee, community, investor, media, and brand communications. He joined NOVA in 1997. His prior roles at NOVA Chemicals include engineering, operations leadership, business development, investor relations, and executive support. Markowitz currently serves on the board of Reading is FUNdamental (RIF) Pittsburgh.
