Sunday, May 1 will be the first of many block parties popping up around the Northside; a project of One Northside in partnership with The Buhl Foundation.

The block parties are “a series of mini arts festivals that will call attention to and celebrate the valuable resources and local identities of the 18 Northside neighborhoods of Pittsburgh,” according to The Block Party website.

The event is slated to being at 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and will take place at Asylgärten Park. The event is rain or shine, and there will be live music by Delicious Pastries, Brewer’s Row, and The Get Down Gang.

There will also be:

• Food trucks will be onsite
• Stories about the neighborhood are being collected onsite by The Saturday Light Brigade.
• Hands-on activities with Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse and Little House Big Art.
• Public art with AIR: Artists Image Resource
• Refreshments featuring the local, in-progress brewery, Spring Hill Brewing.
• Activities with Mattress Factory – Museum of Contemporary Art.
• Historical photos courtesy of Allegheny City Historic Gallery.

On Saturday, the day before the block party, there will be a community clean-up at 10 a.m. Participants are to meet at the firehouse on Homer Street. According to the Spring Hill Civic League Facebook page, the clean-up should take no more than two hours.

Other contributors to the The Block Party in Spring Hill are the New Hazlett Theater, Deutschtown Music Festival and The Sprout Fund.
