Looking to make a difference in the community? Local residents are encouraged to volunteer for fitUnited second annual Day of Action at Fowlers Field, 2900 N. Charles St.
“Our hope is that more people in the community will be able to take advantage of this beautiful park once the repairs and improvements are made during Day of Action,” said William Thompkins, executive director at The Pittsburgh Project.
On Saturday, June 11, in association with Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon Inc., United Way, and Pittsburgh Project will collaborate with local volunteers to help restore Fowler Field in Pittsburgh’s Northside. Assistance will be needed to help plant new flowers, repair playground equipment, paint, and more activities to rejuvenate the park and making it more accessible for neighborhood children and families.
If participants register by May 26th, and they will be entered to win a pair of tickets to the Beyonce Formation World Tour Concert on May 31st at Heinz Field.
Last year at fitUnited’s first annual Day of Action, hundreds of volunteers joined together to refurbishing Willie Stargell Field in Homewood. Nearly 550 hours of volunteer work were put in last year, and now hundreds of families and children are reaping the benefits of the positive volunteer work contributed.
“It is our job to bring our community, including corporate leaders, local sports teams, organizations, young professionals, families, students and more, together to put plans into action for the betterment of the community,” said Christine Grady, United Way’s fitUnited program director.
Registration is still open for the event. For more information, click here.
