Sunday, July 17 marks the first Observatory Hill History Adventure, allowing participants to dive into the neighborhoods culture and architecture with guidance from local historians.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. in front of Riverview United Presbyterian Church, 3505 Perrysville Ave., with a walking tour of Riverview Avenue, followed with uninterrupted Molly’s Trolleys tours. The event concludes at 5 p.m.

The walking tour will feature Riverview Avenue and the Riverview Church, the Byzantine Seminary, Riverview Park, Allegheny Observatory and the homes lining the avenue. The trolley tours will include historic details and present day highlights of the commercial district and proposed developments, significant buildings, landmarks, and homes designed and built in the first half of the 20th century. The historic developments include Judges’ Row along Perrysville Avenue, Watson Boulevard and nearby streets, Marshall Fields and Acorn Hill and Waldorf and Bonvue Streets.

There will also be food trucks near Riverview Church for hungry participants. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 the day of.

Jane Sestric, a member of Observatory Hill Inc., said there have been house tours in the past, but this is the first time for a history tour of this nature.

“The park is coming into a revival, the playground is being rebuilt,” Sestric said. “It’s wonderful that we’re able to share it with the Northside as a whole, and enliven and make the Northside a great place to live.”
