Wigle gains ability to sell beer on site
Hand in hand with its third debut of Hopped Whiskey on August 19, Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse and Distillery will add beer to its list of libations in lieu of Pennsylvania’s new legislation that will make it possible for a limited amount of distilleries to serve beer.
The legislation passes on August 9, and both Wigle’s Distillery and Barrelhouse will begin selling local beer on that date.
The Hop Fest + Beer De-Brew on August 19 will take place from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Barrelhouse, 1055 Spring Garden Ave.
Tickets are $15 and include a Hopped Whiskey cocktail and a paired beer and spirit sampling from Helltown Brewing, Grist House Craft Brewery, and Spoonwood Brewery.
This year, Wigle’s Hopped Whiskey is a blend of rye and wheat whiskey and is hopped in two different ways. According to a press release by Wigle, the distillers used a vapor-infusion technique by vaporizing the rye whiskey and sending it through a basket containing fresh Chinook hops. Then the rye whiskey was aged in used charred oak barrels for about a year before being blended with the aged wheat whiskey that had macerated Newport, Cascade and Chinook hops in it for nearly three years.
