The MAKESHOP is open every day until 4:30 p.m. for kids visiting the Children’s Museum. But on certain Friday’s throughout the year, kids are able to extend the curfew and hang out in the Museum after hours.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. kids ages 10+ are able to hang out “to make, play, and design using ‘real stuff,'” according to the Children’s Museum website. Upcoming Youth Make days are September 23, October 21, November 18, and December 16. Tickets are $8 for Museum members and $10 for nonmembers.

The materials provided for the MAKESHOP are the same used by “professional artists, builders, programmers and creators of all kinds. It is also a place where physical materials and digital media resources intersect; where visitors are encouraged to be curious, creative, experimental and innovative.”

Kids are able to investigate working with circuitry, woodworking, textile processes (sewing and weaving), stop-motion animation, and take apart recycled toys, and snoop around the electrical systems in small appliances to see how they work.

Not to let kids have all the fun, the Children’s Museum also holds a MAKEnight 21+ for adults. Tickets include complimentary drinks, light fare, and a variety of different activities. Tickets are $25 at the door, $20 in advance, or $14 more members and students.

Adult MAKEnight dates are September 22, December 8, February 9, and May 4 (be with you).
