Women’s Walk for Peace this weekend
The 9th Annual Women’s Walk for Peace will take place this Saturday, September 24 at 10 a.m.
The walk will start at The Pittsburgh Project, 2801 N. Charles St., and end at West Park, 700 Arch St. A shuttle service will be available where participants can park their cars near West Park and ride the shuttle to the walks starting point.
Sponsored by the Northside Coalition for Fair Housing, Executive Director Ronell Guy said “The purpose of this walk is to encourage women and their families to take a stand against all types of violence, including domestic violence, gang violence, the unlawful use of guns, and various other violent acts that degrade and destroy communities,” according to the website.
“The Women’s Walk for Peace gives us an opportunity to provide support and encouragement for those who have been victimized by violence or who have family members who have been victimized; and it also provides education and resources on violence prevention for individuals who want to become part of the solution,” Guy said.
Special musical guest Keke Wyatt will perform at the festival that will take place at the end of the walk in West Park. The festival begins at 12 p.m. and will also include other musical performances and food vendors, as well as activities for children.
