February newsletter from Councilwoman Darlene Harris
It is finally February! To all of my fellow Northsiders who have faced the cold weather of this past January, I commend you, and I hope that the first month of the New Year treated you well. February marks a change in weather patterns, so we should finally have some sunny, snow-free days. However, please be aware that black ice on freezing days is still on the roads. Drive carefully, observe the speed limits, and be especially mindful around schools, parks, and playgrounds.
We are looking into the process of implementing ShotSpotter in different neighborhoods in the Northside, but it may take several months. ShotSpotter is a technology that allows the police department to immediately locate the area where gunfire has been sensed, and I am extremely excited to finally put it into place! ShotSpotter has saved numerous lives by cutting down the police response time to areas where gunfire has been sensed, and it has helped the police to catch armed criminals. With crime up in the City recently, I am happy to provide new tools for our police force.
