Manchester Jaguars looking for Northside participants
Starting its first season this fall, the Manchester Jaguars football team is open for registration from ages nine through 15 and children from any Northside neighborhood can register to play.
Kya Humphries, organizer and founder of the team, said practice will start in June and there will be three teams to begin the season: Termites (9-10), Mighty Mites (11-12), and Midgets (13-15).
“We’re an inter-city youth group that is inspiring and building up our youth to dream big and to do [they’re] very best and work hard,” Humphries said.
The teams will be part of the Keystone Bantam League, which includes Lawrenceville, Swissvale, Braddock, the West End, the South Side, and East Hills. The Manchester Jaguars will play about six games and the home field is Manchester Field. The teams colors are teal, silver, and black.
Cheerleading is also an option for children ages nine through 15 years old. Humphries said she would eventually like to add other sports teams such a baseball, softball, and track and field.
Humphries said the team is looking for donations, contributions and sponsorships within the Northside communities, and also adult volunteers to help the football teams and cheerleaders. She also said that the organization is still looking for a treasurer.
