UPMC Health plan’s Healthy Family Day at Children’s Museum
Music, movement, food and indoor/outdoor activities – with a focus on fostering healthy communities – are all part of the mix at the UPMC Health Plan’s Healthy Family Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 29 at Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, 10 Children’s Way.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., families who pledge to help a fellow community member can receive a free glass of lemonade at the Lemonade Stand. From 1-3 p.m. in the Museum’s Theater, visitors of all ages can “show their moves” at the Family Dance Party with DJ Kelly Mom and kids can join KidsKardio Inc. to test their athletic skills.
Throughout the day, visitors can play with clay, learn silk screening and make creative use of recycled materials in the Studio and MAKESHOP®. During the afternoon, families are invited to revisit the tastes and aromas of traditional Pittsburgh-regional cooking during the Heritage Cook-It demonstration in the Studio. Outside of the entrance to the Museum, “Let’s Move Pittsburgh” will offer visitors gardening experiences, including planting herbs in a take-home pot. Plus, kids can take to the open road on two Harley-Davidson Road King® inspired motorcycles and customize the motorcycle with interchangeable parts, accessories and decals at the “Hands-On Harley-Davidson” exhibit. Later, stop by the Café to craft a thank you note to a neighbor, teacher or family member who has done something special to hang upon on the Thank You Tree.
Pediatric health professionals from UPMC Health Plan will also be available throughout the day to answer families’ questions about maternity and children’s health issues such as autism, learning disabilities, diabetes, dental care and more.
Visitors also have the opportunity to share their own favorite family recipes, and discover new ones, in the “What’s for Dinner? Heritage Recipe Contest” by submitting recipes via social media and in person at Healthy Family Day. Learn more at https://pittsburghkids.org/about/in-the-community/upmchealthyfamilyday .
