August newsletter from Councilwoman Darlene Harris
I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer thus far! The heat in Pittsburgh has left us eager for fall, but with another year of school starting so soon, I’m not sure I can speak for all of the students in the city.
As we start to move in the direction of schoolbooks in place of spray parks, I urge everyone to be careful driving near public libraries and schools in the city. However, for the remainder of the summer, be sure to spend some time appreciating the many beautiful parks on the Northside. Last minute parties and summer gatherings are common this time of year, and for those of you looking for an outdoor area that can accommodate a larger party, I urge you to look into park pavilions. Riverview park has several rentals available in the summer, and for a different experience altogether, the Allegheny Observatory offers tours of the facility every Thursday night at 8 p.m. I urge anyone who loves stargazing to reserve a spot at the Observatory on a clear evening; the sights are incredible and it’s a great way to end a summer day. You can reach the Observatory for reservations at 412-321-2400 between 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Always feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns at darlene.harris@pittsburghpa.gov or 412-255-2135. Enjoy the warm weather!
