With house tours, 21+ nights at the MAKESHOP, Oktoberfest, music festivals and the kick off to Jazz Poetry Month, this weekend offers Northsiders a buffet of fun.

Thursday, Sept. 7
Maker Faire Info Session & MAKEnight
Maker Faire is a little over a month away and tonight’s session offers guests a chance for discounted tickets and an opportunity to contribute in the event’s planning. The info session will take place at the Children Museum’s MAKESHOP at 6 p.m. For more information visit the Maker Faire website. The MAKESHOP will also be hosting their 21 and over MAKEnight event this evening at 6:30 p.m. the theme will be “Murder Mystery.”
Jazz Poetry Month at Alphabet City
City of Asylum’s Jazz Poetry Month kicks-off tonight at 7 p.m. at Alphabet City with the Tom Rainey Trio. All month long, Alphabet City will be hosting free jazz concerts and lectures from various artists, musicians, writers and of course poets. Friday, Sept. 8
Northside Food Pantry Collection
Friday means the Northside Farmers Market will be open at the Allegheny East Commons Park. It also means that with the second Friday of the month the Northside Food Pantry will be on site for collections, the group aims to fight food insecurity throughout the Northside.
Oktoberfest at Teutonia Männerchor
Teutonia Männerchor’s public Oktoberfest begins at 5 p.m. and will run through until Sunday, Sept. 10. The event celebrates the German tradition and will host a slew of Bavarian brews, food, and music. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, but will only be available at the door. Saturday, Sept. 9
Troy Hill Movie Night
Swing by the Troy Hill Citizens Park at 8 p.m. for an outdoor showing of Dr. Suess’ “The Lorax.” The event is free, for more information visit the Troy Hill Citizen’s Inc. FB page.
105.9 Xfest
Pittsburgh’s 105.9 The X will be holding their annual Xfest at Stage AE. This year’s lineup is headlined by Bastille and includes Highly Suspect, K. Flay, J Walston and the Business and FRENSHIP. Doors open at 3 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the box office or through Ticketmaster.
Deutschtown Summer Series
The weekly event continues with Chet Vincent. The BYOB event starts at 6 p.m. at Arnold’s Tea. For more information visit the event’s FB page.
Sunday, Sept. 10
Mexican War Streets Home & Garden Tour
The 48th annual home and garden tour starts at 11 a.m. and hosts a number of local vendors and food trucks including BRGR, Gilligan’s Sorbet and Billu’s Indian Grill. Tickets are $20 the day of, for more information on the tour visit the event’s page.
U.S.S Requin Behind-The-Scenes Tour
Carnegie Science Center will host its behind-the-scenes tour of the U.S.S. Requin submarine. The tour goes from 9 a.m to 11 a.m. and tickets are $20 for non-members. The tour is limited to 12 persons. For more information on the tour and tickets visit the event page.
