West Ohio Street Bridge is closed
The West Ohio Street Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic until 2020.
According to a press release from Mayor Bill Peduto’s office, the West Ohio Street Bridge will be officially closed to vehicular traffic as of January 5, 2018.
After repeated deterioration, the bridge’s 3-ton weight limit is a concern for vehicular safety. The closure is expected to last two years until repairs are finished. However, bicycle and pedestrian traffic will be still allowed to cross the bridge. The bridge extends over the Norfolk Southern Railroad near West Allegheny Commons Park.
Drivers should look at alternative driving routes via Brighton Road, North Avenue and Federal Street; detours will be monitored by Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure.
