The Brighton Heights’ Citizens Federation hosted its Halloween parade and fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 27. Festivities included candy, crafts, a puppet dance and a costume contest.

Four-year-old Mia Wright immediately turned around to embrace her older sister after the results of the costume contest were announced. Dressed like a piñata, she won a gift certificate for coming in first place.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, The Brighton Heights’ Citizens Federation hosted its Halloween parade and fall festival.

After the brief parade down Davis Avenue in Brighton Heights, children and parents dressed up in their best Halloween costumes for the costume contest, hoping to win the prize of “Best Costume.” Various games and craft stations were set up for the kids throughout the bottom floor of Emmanuel Christian Church.

Children ate ornate cookies, created finger-painted masterpieces and made their own take-home goodie bags. Some even had their faces painted into ghouls, monsters, and princesses.

Before the end of the festivities, Pittsburgh puppetmaker Cheryl Capezzuti arranged the members from her Giant Puppet Dance Club to perform not only for the kids, but also with them. Participants from the parade were encouraged to join in with the dancing puppets, either by learning the steps or adding their own artistic flare to the performance.
