Commuters, plan ahead: PennDOT will close the East North Avenue bridge crossing I-279 and connecting to Spring Garden Avenue starting tomorrow at 6 a.m. 

The East North Avenue bridge crossing I-279 and connecting to Spring Garden Avenue will close to traffic continuously through Wednesday, May 8. Bridge rehabilitation work including concrete deck repairs, expansion dam replacement, bearing work, and electrical service upgrades will be done at this time, and traffic will be detoured.

The closure is authorized for 61 days, though work may be completed sooner than that. A single lane will remain open on East Street for commuters to detour south to other bridges. The black cables across Spring Garden Avenue just east of the bridge belong to PennDOT and are related to this project.
