Allegheny County Treasurer John K. Weinstein is extending the property tax discount period this year until Monday, April 1. Weinstein will keep the office open until 7:30 p.m. on that day to accommodate taxpayers.

Allegheny County residents are responsible for a number of taxes. One general rule is that everyone that owns property in Allegheny County must pay property taxes. March 31 is usually the last day for property owners to receive a two percent discount on their taxes, but since the date falls on a Sunday this year, Weinstein is extending the discount period until Monday, April 1.

“Since the tax deadline March 31 falls on a Sunday, I am extending the discount date to Monday April 1. This will allow more people time to take advantage of the two percent discount and save money,” said Weinstein.

If residents choose to not take advantage of this two-percent discount, the gross amount of property taxes is due on Tuesday, April 30. Penalty and interest charges accrue starting Wednesday, May 1.

County taxpayers may use other methods to pay county property taxes including: paying in person during regular weekday office hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or paying by mail with the envelope that provided with residents’ tax bills. Payments made by mail must be postmarked on or before April 1, 2019, to receive the two percent discount.
