Potholes & Pierogies: Dinner and a Discussion of the 2020 Capital Budget

Cave Canem Poets at Alphabet City
One of Pittsburgh’s most anticipated poetry events returns! Each June since 2010, City of Asylum has presented the poets of Cave Canem. The poets and their readings are unique in their appeal to both devoted and casual poetry audiences. These are rousing performances that speak to issues of the day with beauty and excitement. Poets have included future Poet Laureates, National Book Award winners, MacArthur “Genius” award winners, and Pulitzer Prize winners. This year’s annual reading will continue the tradition with acclaimed poets Cornelius Eady, Ruth Ellen Kocher and Matthew Shenoda. A book signing with the poets will follow the reading. Sandstone Quarry Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Open House
The Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh and TREK Development Group invite you to join them to come see the magic: housing turned into homes at the new Sandstone Quarry – formerly Allegheny Dwellings. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Sandstone Quarry will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 2:00 pm at 1660 Sandusky Court. An Open House will follow.

Did you know the Citiparks Farmers Market accepts ACCESS cards? Check it out this and every Friday for the summer from 3 to 7 p.m. at Allegheny Commons Park at the corner of East Ohio Street and Cedar Avenue. Smoked Bourbon Release Party at Wigle Barrelhouse & Whiskey Garden
Just in time for Father’s Day! 1st Annual Summer Sale at The Government Center

The Free Store at Propel Northside’s Community Wellness Center
Community members are welcome to visit the free store from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to get needed items such as clothing and personal care products. Shoppers of various ages are invited to select up to five items during their shopping experience! They’re encouraged to take only what they need. If you’d like to donate, donations are accepted on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Propel Northside Community Wellness Center is located at 1805 Buena Vista St., Pittsburgh, PA, 15212. FREE Water Pitchers on the Northside
Women for a Healthy Environment will be hosting its second distribution event of the year! Reduce your family’s lead exposure by filtering the water you use in your home. Women for a Healthy Environment will be distributing FREE water-filtering pitchers and filters certified to remove lead from tap water. Representatives will also be available to answer questions on how to reduce other forms of lead exposures in your home. No requirements are necessary to receive a filter, but priority will be given to households and families with young children, expecting parents, and households inside and outside the PWSA service area with a child with elevated blood lead levels. Sensory Sensitive Science Hours at Carnegie Science Center
As part of its ongoing efforts to create inclusive experiences for all visitors, Carnegie Science Center will offer Sensory Sensitive Science Hours 10 am–1 pm during which exhibits will be modified and activities will be added to accommodate visitors on the autism spectrum and those with sensory sensitivities. Adventure guides, which serve as a visual explainer for navigating the museum, and communication badges, which help visitors signal to staff members their communication needs, will be available.
PGH 101: An Intro to Innovation Riverboat Tour
Get onboard Pittsburgh’s newest sightseeing tour and explore the region’s legacy of innovation. Known as a modern tech and robotics hub, the ‘Burgh has been on the vanguard of industrial revolution for over 250 years! During this meticulously researched 90-minute tour, you’ll discover how Pittsburgh’s challenging landscape, its wealth of natural resources, and the character of its residents and workers have shaped neighborhoods and industries – creating the dynamic city it is today! All the while, you’ll be taking in the beauty of the skyline and riverbanks! Tour starts at 2:30 p.m. Meet at the Rivers of Steel Dock along the North Shore Trail next to the USS Requin.
