New retailer and office open doors on Western Avenue while Hollywood temporarily closes roads, businesses

Lynn & Barrett held their grand opening at 903 Western Avenue on Sunday, July 7th. This is the second location for the mother-daughter team boutique focused on women’s clothing and accessories.
T Rankin Agency – State Farm Insurance office at 838 Western Avenue opened July 1st to serve the community and is holding an open house on Monday, July 29th at noon for neighbors and clients.
Darlene Shelton-Lamont announced her retirement in May of this year and closed the doors of her State Farm Insurance office, also on Western Avenue, on May 31, 2019. Ms. Shelton-Lamont served Northside for 31 years.
Bellevue Beauty Bar & Spa officially opened doors in Troy Hill at 1619 Lowrie St. this year and offers, by appointment, skincare, waxing, makeup artistry, hair styling, and more.
Monterey Pub announced they would be temporarily closed on Tuesday, July 23rd and Wednesday, July 24th for a filming of Discovery Channel’s true crime series “Manhunt”. The second season, called “The Lone Wolf”, will chronicle the 1996 Olympic bombings. The Pub will reopen on Thursday, July 25th.

August Wilson’s play “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” is being filmed for Netflix on North Avenue at Brighton Road as of Monday, July 8th and continues to close that street section as of Wednesday, July 10th. The film is being produced by Denzel Washington and cast another August Wilson film “Fences” star Viola Davis and Marvel’s recent “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman. Netflix began building the set of a 1920’s Chicago business in the gravel parking lot next to the Stables Building and across the street from HIP at the Flashlight Factory in early June.
City Fresh Pasta will reopen their Northside location within Nova Place next week after a brief paternity leave. Congratulate owner, Eric Earnest, on his family’s new addition while picking up handmade breakfast, fresh pasta lunch, or pasta for 2 dinner-to-go specials.
