Fineview Walking Tour
Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation (PHLF) has close connections with this hillside neighborhood on Pittsburgh’s Northside as a result of its efforts to preserve two Gothic Revival homes built between 1855 and 1860. PHLF purchased the Henderson-Metz house in 1975 through its revolving fund, and sold it in 1984 to a development company that restored its exterior and converted the interior for apartments. In 2000, PHLF accepted a preservation easement for Heathside Cottage, thus protecting the facade of the picturesque cottage in perpetuity. As you explore Fineview, you’ll see wonderful views of the city and learn about the concept of suburbia, the philosophy of domesticity, the influence of landscape designer A.J. Downing and architect A.J. Davis, and the reforming mission that guided the development of one of the city’s earliest public-housing projects. Event is from 2 to 3 p.m. Fee: members $10; non-members $20 Paid reservations must be made by Tuesday, July 9, 2019. Registration is limited to 15 people and advance paid reservations are required: marylu@phlf.org or 412-471-5808, ext. 527. More information is available here.
