This year’s Deutschtown Music Festival was back and better than ever.

The seventh annual Deutschtown Music Festival (DMF), held in the Historic Deutschtown neighborhood of Pittsburgh’s Northside, took place on Friday, July 12, Saturday, July 13, and expanded to a third day, Sunday, July 14, this year, for a gospel brunch with food, children’s activities, and music from headliner Joy Ike and others. Close to 400 bands played at around 30 indoor and 12 outdoor stages and 36 food trucks and vendors were set up in Allegheny Commons and on both Foreland and James Streets.

In addition to the music and art, zero-waste efforts continued this year for DMF. The festival worked with the Pennsylvania Resources Council and volunteers were set up at zero-waste stations to help festival-goers dispose of their recyclables, compostables, and trash. Food and beverages from food truck vendors were dished out in compostable containers.

Despite some last-minute “hiccups,” said DMF Co-founder Cody Walters, the festival turned out “better than could have been expected.”

“It was amazing as always,” said Walters. “The festival was just magical this year.”
