Lake Elizabeth to hold Pittsburgh Night Lights Water Lantern Festival
Northside’s first water lantern festival comes to Allegheny Commons West Park this summer
The first annual Pittsburgh Night Lights Water Lantern Festival will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Lake Elizabeth in Allegheny Commons West Park. The gates open at 6:30 pm and attendees will receive a free goody bag while supplies last.
The festival features live music and performances from local Pittsburgh artists including Desert Hijinks, Sam Stucky and Sirkus Fire dancers and Fire Breathers. Plus tasty cuisine from Pittsburgh-based food trucks, a vendor village, and tailgate games leading up to a water lantern release at nightfall. In celebration of the 700-year-old tradition, event-goers are encouraged to decorate their water lanterns with words of encouragement, remembrances, and anything close to their heart as they watch their light come out of the darkness.
As a special gift to Northside neighbors, a limited amount of free admission tickets are being offered with the purchase of a water lantern and decorating kit.
The Pittsburgh Night Lights festival benefits Team Erika, a 25-year old woman from Scott Township who is battling stage 4 metastatic breast cancer with a percentage of each ticket donated to covering the cost of her care during treatment. Event-goers are encouraged to bring additional monetary donations for Team Erika to assist the young independent contractor’s battle against an extremely aggressive, and currently incurable, disease.
