Manchester Little League team wins two championships
After a close to 10 year hiatus, the Manchester Tigers Little League team is back in action. They played in two leagues this year and won both championships.
Manchester’s Little League team, the Manchester Tigers, played in both the Caron Welsh (CW) Little League and the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) League this year and won both championships.
According to James Kendrick, known to the team as “Coach Norm,” Manchester hasn’t had a Little League team in close to 10 years. Along with Assistant Coaches Jermaine Herring and Tay Kendrick, James offers children an alternative to sitting in front of a computer or watching TV by teaching them the fundamentals of the game of baseball. Participating children mainly range in age from 9 to 12, but this year, there were some as young as six. Next year James plans to have an all-ages program.
James, who played Little League when he was a child, has a goal to spread the word about the program and to build it up for next year. There are also tentative plans for an off-season training “mini-camp” at Manchester Elementary School in the fall or winter.
