8th Annual WIG OUT

Wear and witness wigs of all sizes, shapes, and colors to celebrate the night in honor and in memory of cancer patients and survivors needing wigs from treatment side-effects. They wear them every day as they fight for their lives. For one night, you wear yours in support of them all. Proceeds benefit YACS (Young Adult Cancer Support), providing emotional, social, and financial assistance to young adult cancer survivors in Western PA. Diwali Celebration at Museum Lab

Join a celebration of the Indian festival of lights, Diwali. Enjoy traditional Indian food from Café Delhi and dazzling live performances by students from Guiding Star Productions. Be inspired by the artwork of Nek Chand in Studio Lab as you explore art activities including diya painting, henna, and rangoli making. Behind-the-Scenes Tour at Penn Brewery

Join Penn Brewery at 1:00 pm on selected Saturdays, as one of their brewers leads a behind-the-scenes look at how they make their fine Penn beers. Sensory-Sensitive Day at the Carnegie Science Center

Created in partnership with Autism Connection of PA and supported by Autism Speaks and The Jack Buncher Foundation, the Science Center offers a special day for people with sensory sensitivities from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. BodyStage, The Rangos Giant Cinema, Buhl Planetarium, and Works Theater shows will be adapted for children and adults who are on the autism spectrum or have sensory sensitivities. Special “touch tables” will enable visitors to interact with animals in the H2Oh! exhibition. Exhibit lights and sound effects will be adjusted, and special activities will be added to foster a safe, welcoming, and most of all, fun environment for all. Plus, visitors are invited to collect valuable information at a free Autism Resource Fair in Carnegie Science Center’s PointView Hall, made possible by a collaboration with Autism Speaks. The movie Autism Goes to College will play in The Rangos Giant Cinema at 1 p.m. This heartwarming movie is packed with honest insights for students, parents, and educators offering an eye-opening look at what a growing number of neurodiverse students are bringing to campus. 25th Anniversary Community Day at The Warhol

In celebration of its 25th anniversary, The Andy Warhol Museum will be open and free to the public today. Activities throughout the day include hands-on artmaking, gallery talks and activities, live performances, and “AWxAW: fifteen minutes of fame”, a participatory art installation created by interdisciplinary artist Alisha Wormsley. The “Andy Warhol: Revelation” exhibition will also be on view. Community Day is presented by UPMC Health Plan, with additional support from The Benter Foundation, The Caliban Foundation, and Nova Chemicals. More information is available here.

How to Sharpen Tools, Blades, & Knives

“The old timers could sharpen just about anything, so why can’t you? This hand-on workshop is your chance to learn how to sharpen chisels, lawnmower blades, drill bits, knives, and more. Bring any dull, worn tool, blade, or knife—seriously, bring that thing—and we’ll teach you to sharpen it. Sponsored by the Tool Library at the Millvale Community Library with generous funding from the Pittsburgh Foundation, this workshop is free.
