NDEAM Internship and Employment Fair at CoLab18

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The Pittsburgh OVR Business Services and Outreach Division will be celebrating NDEAM by hosting an Internship and Employment Fair. “THE RIGHT TALENT, RIGHT NOW.” This event will be held at CoLab18 located inside Nova Place (former Allegheny Center Mall) October 24, 2019 from 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM. Easterseals 2nd Annual Speakeasy

Easterseals will be hosting the 2nd Annual Speakeasy event on Thursday, October 24th at a secret location on the Northside! Dress in your favorite 1920’s attire or business casual and live like real-life legends, Al Capone and Carrie Nation. Proceeds will help to provide support for children and adults with disabilities and special needs locally. Tickets are $75 per person and include: food, a free drink (cash bar), musical performances by Jessica Lee and Mark Strickland, readings by The Psychic Mike, palm readings by Donald DeTemple, and much more! Resumania at CCAC North

CCAC North will be holding a resume open house on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 9 AM to 6:30 PM in Room 1006. Bring your resume and have it reviewed for free! Coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided after 4:30 PM. The event is open to all.

ChemFest at Carnegie Science Center

The annual Spring Hill Halloween Parade is today. Registrations will be taken until Tuesday, Oct. 23. Please register via this link. Registration is $5 per child. $20 max per family. Parade check-in begins at 11 am at Brady’s. The parade will start promptly at 11:30 am – ending up in the Rockledge St. lot. Anatomy of a Movie at Alphabet City

“What was the screenwriter thinking?” A unique way to learn a unique craft. Most of the screenwriting process takes place away from a keyboard and desk. The story, the situations, character introductions, subplots, story points, set-ups, “gags”, transitions, edits, scene descriptions, etc. are all thought about long before the writer downloads screenwriting software onto their computer. Many times—if not most—the ending is known before the beginning. In this presentation, one of the “great movies you’ve never heard of” will be screened and dissected during a showing to determine (the best way you can) what the screenwriter was thinking during the story structure and the outline process. Film is “Once”, an award winning Irish movie with a unique love story and great music. Located at Word Cellar at Alphabet City, 40 W. North Ave., 15212, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Presenter is Ken Kaszak, the developer of the “Write Your Script” class. This class features the “Thinking Like a Screenwriter” method, which enables students to write a script while maintaining work and family commitments and to take advantage of the “ancillary” benefits of writing. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

The 2019 National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Zone 1 Police Station, located at 1501 Brighton Road, will serve as a collection site for Northside residents. This service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked. Unused prescription medications in homes create public health and safety concerns, because they can be accidentally ingested, stolen, misused, and abused. This event aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

Pittsburgh FireWalk

Inspired by historic Autumn fireside traditions, the inaugural Pittsburgh FireWalk will be a series of Saturday night, firelit carnivals produced by City of Play. At the center of old Allegheny City, the Hearth will feature a firelit carnival with games, activities, and specialty vendors of arts, food, and drink. Three wood-burning sculptures will be positioned through Allegheny Commons in a magnificent visiting Public Art installation. These “cauldrons” are each designed and forged by skilled metal-craft artisans from our partners at Rivers of Steel. Throughout the evening, each fire will be carefully tended by local storytellers, musicians, and dancers. Long-time residents, curious students, local business owners, community organizations, and travelers of all types are invited to meet each other in the streets and celebrate the mythical thrill of an Autumn night by firelight.
