Sadie Hoagland at City Books
“Please join on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 7 PM when we welcome Sadie Hoagland to City Books. Refreshments will be served. Hoagland’s new collection of short stories, American Grief in Four Stages explores the possibility of elegy and the inability of our culture to communicate grief or sympathy outside of cliche. The book asks the question: why does our country do so little for the bereaved? Why do we have only empty cliché to address the grief of others? Why do we expect people to just “get over” insurmountable tragedy?” City Books is located at 908 Galveston Ave. in Allegheny West. Click here for more information.
Sunday, Feb. 9
Nail Trimming & Ear Cleaning for a Cause
Karen, from Doggone Delightful, will be at Wagsburgh from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to freshen up your pups. In addition, Karen has graciously offered to donate ALL of her proceeds to Senior Pet and Animal Rescue for Valentine’s Day. So even if your pup doesn’t need the basics done, stop down to support a great organization. Click here for the Facebook event page.
Jazz at Emmanuel
“It’s where the spirited and the spiritual join together in a new kind of celebration! Jazz Vespers incorporates a series of finger-snapping jazz meditations and stirring poetic or interpretive readings that celebrate everyone as beloved human beings before a benevolent and wondrous creator. A scriptural message and passing of the peace round out the celebration of the theme of the day. This not-to-be-missed, unique worship experience is one everyone will want to see and hear for themselves. Directed by Dr. James Johnson Jr. of the Afro-American Music Institute on piano, the Jazz ensemble includes guest bassists, Lou Schreiber on reeds, James Johnson III on drums, and Pamela Johnson on vocals, as well as occasional guest musicians. Always the 2nd Sunday at 5:00 pm, September through May. Emmanuel Episcopal Church is located at 957 West North Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15233.”
