There’s one week left to try 80 taps of local Pittsburgh beer at this Northside staple.

It’s the second year in a row that Mike’s Beer Bar on Federal Street in the Northside has run a celebration of local Pittsburgh breweries. Right now through the end of September, all 80 taps at the bar represent breweries in the Pittsburgh area, and even more beers and ciders from the area can be found in bottles and cans. 

Local breweries have continued to pop up over the last few years, and according to local blog Discover the Burgh, you can now find 66 breweries in and around the city to visit. A few Northside breweries are on tap during this event, such as Allegheny City Brewing and Penn Brewery, who have their OFest lager and Pumpkin Roll Ale on tap, respectively. 

Mike Sukitch, a Northside native and owner of his eponymous bar, said in a press release: “Due to the popularity of our event last year, we are increasing the footprint of our Pittsburgh breweries, all of them small businesses chugging along during these trying times.”

Because of the pandemic, Mike’s Beer Bar has increased their outdoor seating capacity to accommodate patrons who want to sit down. If you’re interested in ordering food, neighboring restaurant, the North Shore Tavern, is getting in on the action and purchasing local ingredients through the end of September, too. 

For anyone who still doesn’t feel comfortable going to a bar or restaurant, Mike’s Beer Bar is offering carry-out deals: This month, growlers are buy two, get one free and select mix and match six-packs are half off.

While you aren’t able to visit every brewery in Pittsburgh right now, Mike’s Beer Bar is helping you taste many of their beers under one roof.
