Northside Farmers’ Market opens May 20, offers ‘A Place to Start’
The City of Pittsburgh’s Northside Farmers’ Market offers ‘A Place to Start,’ be well, and stay well. It’s a health outreach program initiative of Allegheny General Hospital and the Northside Leadership Conference (NSLC) to promote health and wellness in the Northside community.

The City of Pittsburgh Northside Farmers’ Market is scheduled to open May 20 in Allegheny Commons Park. The Farmers’ Market not only provides a location for the community to buy fresh produce and other food items from local farmers, but it also provides an opportunity to learn about how to live a better lifestyle. “A Place to Start” is here to teach the community about healthy food alternatives, a balanced diet, the importance of yearly check-ups, exercise, and much more.
Beginning the journey toward a better and healthier lifestyle can be difficult, but “A Place to Start” assists Northside families in taking the first step, whatever that step may be. There are great resources for individuals and families right here on the Northside that many people are not aware of. To name a few, there’s the North Side Christian Health Center (NSCHC), Northside Food Pantry, and Propel Northside Community Wellness Center.
NSLC intends to offer a range of health events and information, including nurse chats, information on AHN’s Center for Inclusion Health, healthy food demos and recipes, the COVID-19 team from NSCHC, health screenings, and more! It’s critical to stay safe and healthy after a challenging period combating a pandemic, and we’re devoted to providing helpful tools to the Northside community. We’re excited to help Northside families embrace and adapt to a new healthy lifestyle in 2022.
Be on the lookout for NSLC’s “A Place to Start” health outreach program at the farmers’ market this summer and please visit our Facebook and Instagram for updates and weekly scheduling.
Please note: Markets are subject to federal and state guidelines regarding mass gatherings. Please check the City of Pittsburgh’s website to confirm markets will open as scheduled.
