Northside Chronicle managing editor finalist in 2023 Golden Quills
By NSC Staff
A November 2022 article by Sean P. Ray, managing editor of The Northside Chronicle, is one of the finalists in the 2023 Golden Quills competition.
The article “Catching up with the new principals” is a finalist in the category of Excellence in Written Journalism — Division 3, Education. The Chronicle was notified of the article’s choice in an email sent earlier this week.
The Chronicle interviewed three principals working at Pittsburgh Public Schools on the Northside who were new to their positions for the article. Two of the principals — Carl Watson of Pittsburgh Morrow PreK-8 and Michael Barbone of Pittsburgh Allegheny K-5 — were wholly new to the position, while the third principal — Molly O’Malley-Argueta of Perry Traditional Academy — had transferred from serving as a principal at another school.
The Golden Quills are presented by the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania, and this is the 59th year of the awards. The awards recognize professional excellence across “written, photographic, illustration, broadcast, audio, video and digital journalism in Western Pennsylvania nd nearby counties in Ohio and West Virginia,” according to the organization’s website.
The winners will be announced at a presentation at Rivers Casino on May 30. The list of finalists can be found here.
