Chronicle June 2023 poll results
By Sean P. Ray | Managing Editor
The month of June has come and gone, so it is once again time to report the results of The Northside Chronicle’s weekly polls!
We started out the first month of summer by asking what your vacation plans were for the season. There was a tie for the lead between “Going to the beach” and “Roadtrip,” each taking 28.5% of the vote. There was also a tie, though a three-way one, for second place, as “Visiting a major city,” “Camping” and “Other/No plans” each received 14.2% of the vote.
Personally, readers, I’m planning on visiting a major city, though going to the beach is my usual vacation plan. But I like to change things up every so often.
Keeping with the summer theme, our next question asked what your favorite ways to stay cool were. Taking 40% of the vote each were “Hit the pool” and “Stay inside,” so it seems we have a mix of party people and introverts among our readers. The remaining 20% was earned by “Lots of water and other drinks.”
Smoke was in the air during the month, a side effect of wildfires in Canada. We asked whether the wildfires affected your views on climate change. The overwhelming majority of you voted “Yes, they’ve made me more concerned,” garnering 60% of the vote. The next most popular answer was “No, but I was already very concerned about it,” while the final 10% went to “Yes, they’ve made me less concerned.”
Our final poll of the month turned out to be our most popular, though also very lopsided. Gus & Yiayia’s is a popular Northside attraction, so we asked why do you stop at the famous food stand. In a probably predictable result, 62.5% of you voted “The ice balls,” Gus & Yiayia’s signature treat. The next closest vote getter was “Visiting Gus,” garnering 25% of the vote. Finally, 12.5% of you said “The fresh popped popcorn.”
