State funds secured for the Northside
District 21 News: State Rep. Powell
I’m happy to announce that District 21 received a total of $318,000 in state grants for community improvements from the Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund under the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The Charles Street Area Corporation will receive $105,000 for the development of a parklet in Perry South and for the acquisition of 12 city-owned parcels of land. The latter component will be utilized for the development of affordable housing units. Housing and economic development have been and will always be a top priority for me. I am proud to bring these funds back to the district and especially the Northside! These funds were secured in collaboration with state Sens. Lindsey Williams and Wayne Fontana, and state Reps. Aerion Abney and Emily Kinkead. Without their collaboration this would not have been possible!
Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) applications are open for the 2023 filing year. The PTRR program has been expanded so that more Pennsylvania residents are eligible for this program than in previous years. Now, for both owners and renters, the maximum income limit for the program is $45,000. There are an estimated 175,000 people who are now eligible for a rebate and my office would be happy to assist in finding out if you are part of this group! My office is also here to help in applying for your rebate. Give us a call or stop by my district office to get assistance with your PTRR.
I want to invite you all to an Unclaimed Property Event on Feb. 20-21 which I will be hosting at my district office located at 5154 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201. Stop by from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days to have a representative from the Pennsylvania Department of Treasury assist you in claiming property that you may have not even realized you had to claim! Unclaimed property can be in the form of checking or savings accounts, stocks, uncashed dividends or payroll checks, refunds and much more. The representative will help you in finding any property that you may have unclaimed and then with the next steps for retrieving it. We hope to see you there!
