District 21 News: Veterans assistance in the district
By State Rep. Powell
Happy March everyone! I cannot believe we are three months into 2024. Thank you to everyone who came to my Unclaimed Property Event at the Lawrenceville district office! Also, a big thank you to Senator Costa’s office and the Department of Treasury for assisting people in claiming their rightful property! If you think you may have unclaimed property or would like help searching for property you may have, stop by my office at any time and my staff can assist you.
On March 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., I will be hosting this year’s first veteran’s assistance event at my Lawrenceville district office. A veteran service officer will be here to help with compensation and pension claims, education benefits, obtaining military personnel and medical records and other additional resources. If you are interested in attending, please call my office at (412) 781-2750 to schedule an appointment. These events will be recurring so if you are not able to make it on March 11 do not worry!
Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) applications are open for the 2023 filing year. The PTRR program has been expanded so that more Pennsylvania residents are eligible for this program than in previous years. Now, for both owners and renters, the maximum income limit for the program is $45,000. There are an estimated 175,000 people who are now eligible for a rebate and my office would be happy to assist in finding out if you are part of this group! My office is also here to help in applying for your rebate. Give us a call or stop by my district office to get assistance with your PTRR.
I want to give everyone in the Northside an early heads up that my district office will be closed on March 29. My office will reopen on April 1 at 9 a.m. and resume regular hours.
My district office is located at 5154 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201. We are open and ready to serve you, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm and by appointment in the evenings on Wednesdays. We also have office hours at our Shaler office at the Shaler Municipal Building located at 300 Wetzel Road, second floor, Glenshaw, PA 15116. We will be there every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or any weekday by appointment.
Any state related issue, or assistance that you may need, please give my office a call; even if we cannot directly help, we will do our best to put you in contact with someone who can. Here are some examples of ways we can help, but are not all encompassing of the support we offer:

- Issues related to utility companies
- Birth certificate applications and finding copies of your vital records
