Letter to the Editor: Omega Talent 2024 in Pittsburgh
On Mar 24, 15 local teens from the Pittsburgh area competed in the annual Omega Talent Hunt. The stage at the sanctuary of the Pittsburgh Project facility was transformed into a pedestal of stars. There was spectacular singing, dramatic interpretation, musicianship and art as the brothers of the Iota Phi Chapter hosted their mandated showcase of the many talents from teenagers in our area. It was a full house. Eleventh- grader Anton Smith from Pittsburgh CAPA won first place for vocals. Twelfth-grader, Carlton Perry, also from CAPA, won second place overall and first place for his jazz interpretation of “Autumn Leaves” by Joseph Kosma. Olivia Davidson from Woodland Hills High School performed her self-entitled monologue, “Dear Mama” and Penn Hills High School artist, Natera Turner, won first place in the art category. Anton Smith will represent the Iota Phi chapter during the fraternity’s second District Conference which will be held at the Valley Forge Casino in King of Prussia. During another occasion outside of the Omega Talent Hunt, contestant Carlton Perry earned a full ride scholarship from WVU. The Iota Phi chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated was established in Pittsburgh in 1925 and meet at their facility in Manchester. Salute to all of the participants and we look forward to next year’s event.
