April poll results recapped
By Sean P. Ray | Managing Editor
The saying goes that April showers bring May flowers. In The Chronicle’s case, however, May edition brings April poll results.
We kicked off our latest round of polls by asking what our readers’ favorite part of spring was, as the first day of spring, March 19, had just happened. There was a pretty clear consensus, with “warm weather” getting 66% of the vote, the remaining 33% going to “flowers blooming.” In this case, I have to agree. While I’m mostly a fall weather person, there’s nothing I love more after the cold of winter than a bright, sunny and warm day.
Next, we asked if our readers took part in the Cutest Baby Photo Contest, which was won by one of our subscriber’s babies, Daisy Lehr. This contest was something of a sequel to our Cutest Pet Photo Contest, which still holds the title for our most popular photography competition.
In the case of the votes, 50% of respondents said they submitted a photo, while the other 50% said they did not take part and didn’t know it was happening. Well, if you want to know more about our photo contests, just check out page 4 of this very issue.
Speaking of popularity, our next poll question was the most popular, and it’s not hard to see why. Or maybe it is hard to see why, considering our question was about something getting hidden by something else.
That’s right, we asked whether our readers managed to go see the eclipse which swept across the country on April 8.
This was a can’t miss event, and our poll reflects that. Despite the number of votes cast, the choice was unanimous, with 100% of respondents saying they went out to see the eclipse.
I personally caught the eclipse at the Allegheny Observatory. The benefit of working in news is that you can assign yourself to go out and cover major events like that.
Finally, with the end of the 202324 school year just around the corner, we asked what our readers’ favorite phase of school was. This ended up being a three-way tie, with one-third voting for “Middle School/Junior High,” another third voting “High School/Senior High” and the final third voting “College/University.”
I’m surprised no one voted for elementary school, personally. I mean, you got recess and nap time! What could possibly beat that?
Well, that brings an end to this round of poll results. Check in next edition for the results of the May polls. And if you want to vote yourself, check out thenorthsidechronicle.com’s homepage. New polls are posted every Sunday morning.
