May 2024 poll results reported

It’s officially June! The first month of summer (at least it will be once the summer solstice rolls around starting on the 20th), the season of vacations, time off from school and hot weather. But before we bid farewell to May and spring, let’s take some time to recap the results of our weekly polls for the previous month.
With the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2024 season fully in swing (pun intended), we asked how often our readers watch the Buccos. One-third of our readers said they watch them “here or there,” so steady, if not consistent viewership. However, the remaining amount of the vote, each consisting of one-sixth of all respondents, was all over the place.
One-sixth said they try to catch as many games as they can. Another sixth said they watch one or two games a year, while another said they hardly ever watch them. Finally, one-sixth said they only watch in-person games. Perhaps to be expected in a sports-loving city like ours, no one said they’ve never watched a Pirates game.
Our next question came in the wake of the Pennsylvania primary election for 2024. We asked whether our readers voted in that election, and all of you did, though in different ways. A total of 66% said they went to the voting booth. The remainder said they voted, but did so remotely, such as by an absentee ballot. Good on you Northside community for doing your civic duty and going out to vote. Our democracy doesn’t function without people willing to cast their vote, no matter the method.
With Allegheny Commons’ North Promenade renovations receiving a ribbon cutting ceremony (see Page 3 for more details), we decided to ask what you all thought of the improved walkway. Reception was mainly very positive, with 80% of respondents saying they “really like them.” Another 10% said they thought they were “alright,” while the final 10% had no strong opinion.
If you haven’t had the chance to check out the North Promenade, definitely do so. I feel it’s a nice touch to the Northside’s front yard.
Next was a question about us, The Chronicle. Specifically, we asked how our readers actually read The Northside Chronicle. Of the respondents, 66% said they read the e-edition, while the remainder said they were a subscriber. I suspect there may be quite a few readers who don’t vote in our polls, however, considering our newspaper boxes are usually empty by the time the new issue comes around. Definitely visit our website and vote in our polls if you can. Some questions can seriously help guide decision making at The Chronicle.
Finally, we had our first poll where respondents could pick more than one response, as we asked what your plans were for Memorial Day. Despite the expanded options, however, only two options received any votes, and both for the same amount. “Family Picnic” and “Day at the Pool” were the winners of the poll which, to be honest, was how I spent the holiday as well.
That brings an end to our poll recaps. We’ll be back next month with the June results. Our polls can be found at our website, thenorthsidechronicle.com, and are posted every Sunday at 5 a.m. So come visit and make your opinions heard!
