District 19 News: Rep. Abney issues a call to vote
By Rep. Abney
Hello, Northsiders! I’m eager to share with you some important work I’ve been doing here at home and a call to get out and vote.
I was thrilled to help kick off a campaign to get neighbors to the ballot box in November. My Pennsylvania House Democratic colleagues and I met with Allegheny County officials to discuss the importance of incarcerated individuals being able to vote. The right to vote is a beacon of hope, reminding us that every voice matters and that redemption and civic duty are intertwined.
I also led a call-to-vote event alongside local officials and state colleagues at the Allegheny County Courthouse. I cannot overstate how essential voting is to the democratic fiber of our country, and I’m committed to doing all I can to keep elections free and fair.
On that note, November will be here before you know it, so I want to encourage everyone to start preparing for the general election now. The first thing to do is that if you haven’t registered to vote yet, please do so by Oct. 21. Visit vote.pa.gov/Register to fill out an application today.
You can also obtain a mail-in voting application, find your polling place, and even track your ballot by visiting alleghenycounty.us/Government/Elections. The most important thing is making your voice heard, so I urge all neighbors to exercise their constitutional right on Nov. 5.
I wish everyone a happy and safe Labor Day, and I’ll talk to you all again in October.
