Chamber Update: 30th Annual Pumpkinfest to be held Oct. 12
By Carrie Nolan-Robson | Executive Director, Northside North Shore Chamber of Commerce
Pumpkinfest is a cherished tradition on the Northside that dates back a little over 30 years. Barbara Burns, the creator, organizer, and coordinator, began this community event after taking office as an elected Pittsburgh Public Schools Board of Director.
“I wanted to create an event that focused on the Northside children,” stated Barbara. “I have always believed communities need events to celebrate together.”
And that they did when the first Pumpkinfest was held in Allegheny Commons East Park (same as today) and hosted about 150 children along with their families. Today, after 30 years of growing the event due to overwhelming popularity, more than 1,000 children are expected to take part in the Oct. 12 celebration.
Pumpkinfest is an all-volunteer driven event with many supporters and sponsors that help to offset the cost, making the event affordable for families. After a slight pause of the event, due to the pandemic, the community is reintroducing the next generation of children to Pumpkinfest.
Come out on Oct. 12, from 1-5 p.m. (Rain date Oct. 13), Allegheny Commons East Park to create lasting memories and carry on a tradition deeply rooted in the Northside community. The Northside| North Shore Chamber of Commerce is happy to support this event and work with Barbara and other collaborators to make this event a huge success. Hope to see you there!
