District 19 News: Voting tour continues, senior fair held
By Rep. Abney
Hello, Northsiders! I’m eager to share with you some of the important work I’ve been doing across Pennsylvania and here at home.
I joined state Rep. Rick Krajewski in Centre County for the next stop on the statewide initiative to get people to the polls this November. After touring the county’s correctional facility, we discussed voting access for incarcerated individuals with officials and advocates alike.
Keeping the ability to vote possible for eligible incarcerated individuals means recognizing them as valuable and contributing members of society. Making their voices heard at the ballot box also gives them the opportunity to help shape future policy and facilitate positive change for themselves and their peers. Additionally, reinstating the right to vote for people who have completed their term of incarceration is a right they deserve on the path to rehabilitation and making the most of a second chance.
I want to thank all who attended my inaugural senior fair at the National Aviary as well. The hall was packed, and the event itself was a perfect combination of information on state services, specific to older Pennsylvanians, and fun activities for everyone.
Creating a meaningful space for our elder neighbors in the district to feel loved and appreciated and have a great time was a true pleasure. I also want to thank the National Aviary, my staff and everyone else who made the event such a success!
On that note, I want to share information about a piece of legislation, signed into law this year, that lowers one cost for more qualifying older Commonwealth neighbors.
Act 60 of 2024, previously H.B. 2301, raised the annual income limit from $19,200 to $29,906 for retired Pennsylvanians to be eligible to apply for vehicle registration at a reduced price. The law will take effect Dec. 16 and help save seniors significant dollars.
Have a safe and happy Halloween, and I’ll talk to everyone again in November!
