Perry High School damaged by gunshots, none injured
Shots were fired in the area of Perry Traditional Academy on Dec. 17, resulting in no injuries but damage to the school.
According to Pittsburgh Police, the shots occurred just after 8 a.m. and were apparently targeting a juvenile male. A 17-year-old male from Forest Hills was arrested in connection with the incident and charged with various offenses including criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, carrying a firearm without a license.
Two windows were broken by the gunfire, and some damage to school brickwork occurred.
Community meeting for Esplanade development
Manchester Citizens Council will host a community meeting on Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. to update residents on the progress of the Esplanade development.
The meeting will occur at the council’s office at 1319 Allegheny Ave., on the first floor.
In addition, discussion of the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s approval of a Transit Revitalization Investment District for the Manchester-Chateau neighborhoods will be held.
Interested Northside residents can attend the meeting either in-person or remotely. Virtual meeting information will be announced at a later date.
‘Carnegie’ removed from Carnegie Science Center
The Carnegie Science Center is now missing the first half of its name as part of an ongoing rebranding process announced on Jan. 23, 2023.
The “Carnegie” part of the building’s façade signage was removed on Dec. 16.
The museum is transitioning to the name “Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Science Center” following a $65 million donation made by the Kamins. The Science Center will remain part of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh.
Free market at Community House Church
Community House Church and Riverview United Presbyterian Church will host their quarterly free market on Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event will take place at Community House Church, located at 120 Parkhurst. St.
Items available at the market include clothing, blankets and housewares. There will also be food and beverages for attendees.
All items and refreshments at the market are offered at no cost.
